Basic Etiquette
  • When invited to someone’s home, it is a nice gesture to bring a small gift (e.g. chocolates or wine).
  • Table manners follow continental etiquette, but are rather informal and relaxed.
  • Do not put your elbows on the dinner table.
  • Offer to help the host clean up after the meal.
  • Light teasing is acceptable in conversations.
  • If at a bar, always buy a round of drinks when it comes to your turn. Missing your round will be remembered and can result in an unfavorable judgment of your character. This especially applies when drinking with work colleagues because it is seen as a reflection of your overall character and may bring your trustworthiness into question.
